“Manage yourself.” – Katronic supports emerging leaders

Andrew Sutton, Managing Director of Katronic Technologies Ltd., was recently asked to give a talk to a group of young business professionals from the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG). The event took place at the WMG’s impressive headquarters on the campus of the renowned University of Warwick. The WMG is the largest department at the University of Warwick, with an annual turnover of over £110 million, 850 staff, over 3,000 undergraduates and 250 PhD students. They describe themselves as “a multidisciplinary department known for tackling industrial, environmental and societal challenges through collaborative research with companies of all sizes and complexities”.

The UK Managing Director, Andrew Sutton, had agreed to speak to a group of students on the course entitled ‘Developing Future Leaders in Sustainable Manufacturing’. The course is run jointly by the WMG and ‘Sustainability West Midlands’, the leading advocate for sustainability in the West Midlands in the UK. Katronic is a signatory to the ‘West Midlands Net Zero Pledge’, which is administered by SWM and embodies the company’s desire and commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and work towards a net-zero status.

The aim of the WMG course is to help young business leaders:

  • acquire practical knowledge of leadership and distinguish it from management,

  • strengthen key leadership skills – communication, resilience and self-confidence,

  • to learn strategies for creating more time for effective leadership,

  • master techniques for developing and sharing a vision that promotes innovation and competitiveness.

Andrew Sutton was asked to take part in the role of ‘experienced production manager’. He gave a talk on the topic of ‘Manage Yourself’, which centred on his vision for sustainability within Katronic and in his personal life. He introduced Katronic and the environmental applications of our KATflow flowmeters before sharing insights into his experiences in leadership and communication, with a focus on sustainability. Andrew spoke on the first day of a six-day course. The event was attended by around 20 young business professionals, as well as a small group from WMG and Sustainability West Midlands.

As a company, Katronic is always keen to support local educational institutions and has previously collaborated with universities, both in the UK and in Wernigerode, where the company is based in Germany.
