Heat Metering – Efficient Energy Measurement in Heating and Cooling Circuits
Our heatmeters measure the energy transferred in heating and cooling systems precisely, non-invasively and in accordance with standards. Clamp-on flow and temperature transducers provide transparent energy data – without interrupting the process, posing a risk of leakage or requiring pipework modifications. This enables you to optimise consumption and operating costs whilst reliably meeting statutory requirements.
Precise Measurement of Heat and Cold to Identify Opportunities for Energy Savings
Our heat metering systems combine precise flow measurement with accurate temperature monitoring, thereby enabling reliable and non-invasive energy measurement in heating and cooling systems. Both fixed and portable devices provide standard-compliant and traceable energy readings that help you identify potential savings, optimise energy consumption and reduce costs – all without interrupting operations.
To measure heat and cooling flow, two Pt 100 or Pt 1000 temperature sensors, along with a pair of transducers for flow measurement, are fitted to a suitable section of pipework. The temperature sensors are fitted at the inlet and outlet of the system, whilst the flow sensors measure the volumetric flow rate. The measuring instrument calculates energy consumption based on the recorded flow rates and the temperature difference, taking into account the specific heat capacity of the medium.
System Solutions for Heat Metering
Three ultrasonic flowmeters from our range can also be used for precise measurement of heat and cooling output: the fixed-installation systems KATflow 100 and KATflow 150, and the portable measuring device KATflow 230.
The fixed-installation units are designed for long-term use in HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) applications and can be seamlessly integrated into existing building management systems. They are ideally suited to the continuous monitoring and optimisation of energy flows.
The KATflow 230 is designed as a portable measurement system for mobile on-site measurements and supports targeted energy analyses as well as temporary consumption surveys.
All systems feature a comprehensive range of interfaces and process outputs, including current outputs, open-collector outputs (e.g. for pulse or totaliser outputs) and digital relays. The stationary units also offer optional fieldbus and communication solutions such as Modbus and up to ten additional interfaces for flexible integration into higher-level systems.
