Ultrasonic Flow Measurement for Maritime Applications

In shipbuilding and marine engineering, pipework often runs for several kilometres through areas that are difficult to access. The fluids transported range from drinking water and waste water, through cooling and heating circuits, to fuels and hydraulic oils. For operational reasons, measuring points often must not be opened or taken out of service.

Benefits of Using Katronic Ultrasonic Flowmeters in the Maritime Sector

Katronic offers portable and fixed clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters that have been specially developed for maritime applications, both for continuous measurement at sea and for on-site measurements as part of maintenance and inspection work. The systems allow for flexible retrofitting without the need to alter existing pipework, helping to avoid downtime and time-consuming installation work. At the same time, they ensure reliable and stable flow measurement even under demanding environmental conditions.

Reliable Measurement without Interfering with the Pipework

The external sensor installation prevents leaks, pressure losses or flow disturbances. The vessel’s operations remain unaffected, whilst stable and reproducible measurement values are recorded.

Highly Suitable for Maintenance and Inspection Tasks

Katronic portable devices are designed for mobile use in confined and hard-to-reach areas. They can be installed quickly and without the need for tools, making them ideal for maintenance, inspection and repair work on board.

High Practicality and Flexibility

In addition to portable devices, Katronic also offers stationary and ATEX-certified models for potentially explosive atmospheres. Many models allow simultaneous measurement on two pipes. This helps to reduce costs and enables measurements of flow in the supply and return lines, or differential flow, in fuel systems. They also feature a wide range of input and output options for integration into existing on-board and control systems.
