Katronic Honored as “Manufacturer of the Year”

At the Coventry Telegraph Business Awards ceremony on Thursday, November 21, 2019, Katronic Technologies Ltd. was honored with the “Manufacturer of the Year” award at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. This is the company’s second award, following its designation as “Exporter of the Year” six years ago.

Presented annually by the Coventry Telegraph, the awards are given in eleven different categories and recognize companies in the Coventry and Warwickshire region that have achieved success for themselves, their employees, and their customers over the course of a year. It honors micro-businesses, “green” companies, and startups, as well as the “Apprentice of the Year.”

This year marked the 25th anniversary of the awards, and Katronic won in the “Professor Lord Kumar Battacharyya Award for Manufacturer of the Year” category, sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover. With the world’s first non-invasive ultrasonic flow meter for gases, the KATflow 180, the company prevailed against strong competition among the region’s high-tech firms. 

The award is named after Sushantha Kumar Battacharyya, a Bengali-British engineer, professor of manufacturing engineering at the University of Warwick in Coventry, and government advisor. In 1980, he founded the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), which would go on to have a significant influence on the development of British industry. In recognition of his achievements, he was elevated to the peerage and, as Baron Bhattacharyya, has served in the House of Lords as a member of the Labour Party since 2004.

Andrew Sutton, Managing Director of Katronic Technologies Ltd., commented on the award as follows: “I am truly proud of the entire team—both for the innovation being recognized here and for the work Katronic does every day to contribute to the process industry worldwide through our technology. This region is a national and international hub for innovative technologies and engineering achievements, many of which pay tribute to the great man after whom the award is named and who, sadly, passed away this year. He did so much for mechanical engineering and the engineering sector in the United Kingdom, but especially for Coventry and Warwickshire, and we, as a technology manufacturer, mourn his passing.”
