Financial Boost for the 175-Year-Old Wernigerode Local History Society
Rising costs, declining funding, and the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are posing major challenges for the Wernigeröder Männerchor 1848 e.V. By providing financial support, Katronic is committed to preserving the region’s club culture and setting an example of social responsibility in the region.

Like many other ensembles, the Wernigeröder Männerchor 1848 e.V. also suffered severe setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rehearsals and performances were banned, and revenue dried up. Since the choir’s old rehearsal space at the August-Hermann-Francke Elementary School would soon no longer be available due to the school’s demolition and reconstruction, a new rehearsal space had to be found. A new space was rented in the so-called “Haus der Vereine” (House of Clubs), where the rent is nine times the previous amount.
The loss of public funding from the Harz district and the city of Wernigerode has further exacerbated the situation for this locally respected, long-standing club. The aging of the choir members, the resulting decline in membership, and the deficit in the choir’s funds due to falling membership dues have led to the bitter reality that the choir can no longer finance its necessary expenses on its own.
Katronic AG & Co. KG, a technology company based in Wernigerode that specializes in non-invasive ultrasonic flow measurement across various utility and industrial sectors, places great importance on social responsibility and the preservation of culture in the region, as the diversity of the local club culture ultimately offers the company’s employees an oasis of rejuvenation, a source of joy, and an opportunity for personal growth outside of their daily work lives.
The Wernigerode Men’s Choir is very pleased to receive this financial contribution, which will help cover, for example, choir director fees or partially fund urgently needed membership recruitment through public relations efforts.
All cultural initiatives and associations in the region welcome donations from local companies, as the cultural work carried out there benefits people by providing a meaningful form of recreation that allows them to feel rejuvenated and return to productive work.
